Bear
omg this question!!!!
it would SO be a bear
end of discussion.
a gorilla doesn't have CLAWS!!!!!!!!!
i believe this question simply is a matter of terrain, in an open field, a bear would have the upper hand.
in a wooded area with trees and such, a Gorilla would have the upper hand because of its ability to climb very easily
plus a gorilla is hoss, as the delinquent youth of today say, haha
Gorilla can kill all. Its all about them thumbs and brain, bears have brute force. But as Diego said all the gorilla needs is two trees and boom its over. Gorilla climbs a tree bear chases, gorilla jumps to other tree, bear using his horrible mental capacity chases, and falls. Gorilla does some crazy WWE move off the tree unto the bear and its over. Gorilla>Bear
im so sick of hearing this debate in class but i would have to say a gorilla would win any place any time.
ummm i think a bear i hate to break this news to you guys but they can climb trees as well :] Bears dominate
"All black bears, all grizzly cubs and some adult grizzlies can climb trees if the spacing of the branches is right. Running to a tree may provoke an otherwise uncertain bear to chase you. YOU CANNOT OUTRUN A BEAR!"

Well, the standard silver-back gorilla, being a member of the primate family would naturally have an intellectual advantage over the bear, though to be honest the disparity of intellect would be simply negligable in this type of situation, given that gorillas have not been observed to use tools in any sort of combat situation, which also makes the gorilla's thumbs practically useless compared to the bear's claws. The only thing the gorilla would have would be it's mandibles, which are extremely long and sharp for omnivourous mammals.
Ultimatly the fight would depend on the type of bear. A full sized grizzly can grow up to 680 kg, where as full grown gorillas rarely exeed 200 kg, and while gorillas are generally around 5'5''-5''9' tall, most larger species of bear can grow up to 8 feet in height and have claws and are more muscled than gorillas, even taking into account that primates genearally have high muscle density.
So even with the gorilla's superior intelligence, the fight would almost certainly go to the bear, unless it's a koala.
Like previously said, it really just depends on the situation. The question is a bit vague to give an absolute decision. Terrain, type of animal, availability of tools, all play important roles on which would win. So I vote it's called a tie unless more specific information can be given.
1st off, I'd like to point out that many of these answers are much longer than some of the answers to actual "One Flew" discussion questions. Interesting...*quickly jots notes down in Nurse Ratched-style notebook*
Anyways, a bear would win. Why? Claws and teeth.
A bear would easily win. First of all, a bear has really sharp claws. Also, a bear has it's own special move that would finish off the gorilla... The Bear Hug.
I think a gorilla would win.
I mean, think of King Kong! He won against a DINOSAUR. :O
...so what if King Kong's not real? XD
manbearpig kills them all
Definitely a bear. The bear has claws, and it's a natural predator [unless you're talking about a koala or something]. Being a natural predator means sharper teeth. And also, bears tend to be bigger. Think about the gorillas represented in movies. King Kong [both versions]. Buddy. Mighty Joe Young. They're all softies.
I say gorilla. I mean, bears may be stronger, but a single punch and the gorilla would win. 1-2 KO.
I agree with everything Jake said...including the part about the length of the comments.
word to the wise : bear
