McMurphy was willing to start a revolution just so he could watch the World Series, which makes a bold statement about the impact media has on our lives. What is your favorite book, movie, television show, CD/itunes download?

The news programs are all corrupt. Take for example the NYTimes. Something good in Iraq happens and they put it on page 20. Bad? Page ONE! The discount they gave Moveon.org to smear General Petraus was horrifying, because you get the sense that they are rooting for the terrorists. NBC News, CNN, AJC, etc continually show a trend for displaying left triumphs and right downfalls. There's nothing wrong with that as long as you balance it and do the opposite when the time is appropriate. FOX isn't bad actually. They seem to do a little better in that department.
But, this is relevant, because it shows how much the media controls us. It is the MOST powerful force in the country, because it affects how people act and spend their money. If it would be more responsible then America would be an entirely better place. I wish the record/film/print companies would stop glorifying crime, violence, sex, etc. That is a complete and utter fact and everyone knows it. I'm mad at the media, because of its lack of maturity.
Sorry that I've hijacked the point of the thread, but I just think it would be interesting to see what people think.
Book: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean
TV show: House M.D.
In response to connor:
I think it's because the majority of the audience wants to see those things. They are 'interesting'. And keep in mind, in general the media is more liberal than conservative. That explains the left/right argument.

Conner you are right, society is corrupt and that isn't going to change unless you spark a revolution, which I doubt.

but yes conner I agree with the media is corrupt and a revolution should take place but please, if you're the one to start it don't make it like the French Revolution, you wouldn't get anywhere because it was 360 degree {a circle my friend all that work and they ended up in the same place that they started :0)}
Quote: life is what happens when you make plans :D
if you're not part of the solution you are part of the problem
there are 2 types of people in life~ Eeyore or Tigger choose wisely!

CONNIE ALL UR FAVORITE MOVIES ROCK!
After thinking about revolutions, I realized that sparking a revolution wouldn't be too hard to accomplish. In a society as complicated as today in which a decision would have to pass through about a zillion pathways, by the time an approval for the raising of an army is made, the revolting/suceeding area would already have a sufficient militia and alliances...
just food for though w/ all the media talk... lol

Television Show: Gilmore Girls, American Idol, House (which I usually have to watch alone because my mom and sister gag at all that gore)
Download: The Killers
And I'm getting this really hostile vibe about the media. Sure, the media's corrupt- I mean who wants to see Britney or Lindsay's fake dos pop up every time you watch the polls? But media isn't all that bad, it's a huge source of communication that broadcasts international news. It's worth tolerating even with all the irrelevant gossip. And anyways, a thing as popular as the media is bound to go corrupt. Nothing can stay innocent forever. Not even Finny.
Books: The Giver by Lois Lowry, anything by Nicholas Sparks...there are alot of book that would go here.
Movies: Pirates(all),The Breakfast Club,Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Forrest Gump

And to stephen... that was very cheap of you. I think i was the only one that noticed.
Thanks Pedro. Haha.
And in response to the corrupted media, I completely agree. And why is the news so skewed? It's all for the ratings. Ever heard the famous journalist's mantra "If it bleeds, it leads"? The news will put on anything that happened that draws in more viewers. Unfortunately, for many years, the public has been drawn to trauma. Think about it. Even in Ancient Rome people would come to the Colosseum in flocks to see a gladiator fight to the death with some dangerous animal. This will never end. People always want to see blood. And that's exactly what the media will give them if it means more revenue. A revolution will do nothing to change the media in the long run.
You should know the drill by now Mark...
Oh, and I completely agree with you, Connie. Also, I'd like to add, sometimes it's not just blood that's used, but also scandal and embarassment. Anyone watch Moment of Truth? To me it's an obvious attempt to completely embarass an individual just for the sake of entertaining others. Once again, anything for the ratings. It makes me think "What has this society come to?"
Absolutely reprehensible.
*goes to compose satire*
KI forget who it was, but a powerful leader in the USSR once said said that the US's greatest weakness, and the USSR's greatest strength over the US, was its free media. This shows that the media tends to show favor to US enemies, and possible negative change instead of being towards nationlism and conservatism.
book: Anne of Green Gables, Harry Potter, etc.
movie:Pride and Prejudice, Monty Python, Hairspray
television: Gilmore Girls
Goodness. Moment of Truth is such a terrible show. I wouldn't be surprised if people filed for divorce just because of that. I saw it for the first time on Wednesday night.
